Moveius Contemporary Ballet’s mission is to catalyze new choreography in the National Capital area and to increase opportunities for dancers, audiences, and students to experience dance and the performing arts. As the parent company behind Dance Loft on 14, Moveius manages our trailblazing facility with its own artistic and community program in addition to their professional company

Moveius presents works that live at the intersection of policy and performance, confronting topical issues and contemporary stories through movement. Our mission is to create work that amplifies diverse voices and shares human stories - to inspire, reach new audiences, and incite conversation. 

Diana Movius, Founder and Artistic Director, quickly realized that growing a dance company in the DC area was severely hampered by lack of rehearsal and performance space. Driven by this reality, Movius founded Dance Loft on 14 (read more about our opening and mission on the Washington Post).

In 2015, our burgeoning company founded Dance Loft on 14 iin response to a city-wide need for affordable artistic spaces. Our goal is to nurture a bustling arts ecosystem, one where DC dancers can choreograph, create, and thrive. Dance Loft’s name reflects our commitment as the only performing arts center in DC's Ward 4, anchored in 14th Street Heights. We opened thanks to the grassroots support of the neighborhood; now, we give back via the Loft's programming.
